Description
Gictane AAA is particularly effective in reducing fumes from hot Sulphuric Acid. It reduces the attack of acids on steel while promoting more uniform attack on rust and scale. The low surface tension produced by Gictane AAA in acids minimizes dragout losses, thus lowering pickling costs. The use of this material safeguards the health of workers and results in less corrosion to surrounding equipment.
The penetrating and detergent actions of Gictane AAA allow the acid to penetrate under rust and scale and displace oily films. An acid pickle containing Gictane AAA eliminates the oily film which sometimes results from poor precleaning or liberation of trapped oil during pickling. The use of Gictane AAA helps to displace these oily films and leave a cleaner surface for subsequent plating or painting.
Gictane AAA is not designed to be a true inhibitor. However, it reduces the attack of the acid on the base steel by about 25%. Consequently, 25% less acid is consumed and there is 25% less hydrogen evolved from the bath. Additionally, the pickling action is not slowed down because of this inhibiting characteristic, but in most cases is actually increased. If optimum inhibition is desired, Gictane Inhibitor 11 should be added to the solution.
